The chess academy is open on the following days. Separate activities come up and will be
announced in advance:
Tuesdays 6:00-11:00pm (USCF Tournament Night / Skittles)
Saturdays from 12:00-4:00 (Juniors only)
Sundays 1:00-8:00pm (Casual nonrated tournaments and brunch)
Description of Events and Fees
Tuesdays 6:00-11:00pm (USCF Tournament Night / Skittles)
Description: 2 Rooms are for serious Rated tournament games. For these games, UCSF membership is required. However, 1 room is for skittles games. Skittles is a chess term for casual chess games (nonrated). Skittles players are not interested in tournaments and ratings, they just come to play a few games, socialize, and have fun.
Fees: $15 yearly club dues plus $10 tournament entry fee (skittle players only pay the yearly chess club membership fees)
Saturdays from 12:00-4:00 (Juniors only)
Description: Saturdays is junior day. We run a program of coaching and competitions. Juniors are encouraged to take part in internal competitions. Chess teachers are present for instruction.
Juniors day consists of a 1 hour chess lesson followed by 2 hours of play. The last hour the lesson is reviewed and games are analyzed with the students.
Fees:$15 yearly club dues plus $50 per month class fee.
Sundays 1:00-8:00pm (Casual nonrated tournaments and brunch)
Description: Sunday games are more casual than the Tuesday night Tournament games. But more serious than skittles games. Everyone has fun nonetheless and enjoy bagels, doughnuts, and coffee between games.
